Severe Lightning and Thunderstorm Passed Over the Twin Cities Shortly After Midnight

A severe thunderstorm with lightning rippled through the Twin Cities just after midnight, causing power disruptions and small fires.
Both the RNC and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department were called upon, primarily due to false alarms tripping during the storm.
Newfoundland Power is also busy due to the severe lightning striking substations and power lines in the metro region.
A video recorded by Twin Cities News on Blackmarsh Road captures lightning striking a nearby pole on Blackmarsh Road next to the City of St. John’s depot station.
